Brief Description of Services Provided:

Safeworks is a program designed to prevent the spread of HIV and hepatitis B & C infection by increasing awareness and knowledge about these infections, teaching safer injection and sexual practices, and by helping clients change behavior surrounding these practices.  The program also aims at reducing the use of drugs where possible, in order to help clients adopt healthier lifestyles.  The team is staffed by community health nurses and outreach workers who reach the population of people living with substance use in Calgary.


Services include: HIV and Hepatitis A,B& C Testing, Syphilis, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea Testing, Pregnancy Testing, Hepatitis A & B, Flu, Tetanus, and Pneumococcal Vaccination, Counseling and referral to appropriate community services, HIV/Hepatitis C Support Group, User Group, Minor Dressing Changes, Sobriety Support, Condoms, Clean Needles, Vein care supplies (ties & filters), Containers for sharps, Hospital visits, Escort to health related appointments, Kits for piercing, Kits for people who use crack.
